Adventure Store: The Magic BEHIND IT
One of the most exciting parts of using Nina’s Tailored Trips is The Adventure Store — a fun and rewarding way to bring your kids’ good behavior and effort to life.
So what is the Adventure Store?
It’s a simple stash of small rewards made up of your child’s favorite things: snacks, candy, toys, stickers, cool pens, stamps — whatever gets your kiddo excited. You don’t need anything fancy — I grab almost everything from a dollar store! For example, I’ll take a bag of individually wrapped candies or bubble gum, portion out 1–3 into a small container or ziplock, and then label it with an Adventure Buck price. A pack of pens or stickers can be broken up the same way to get even more bang for your buck.
Next, I place all these items in a small bin or box, attach price labels (included in your kit!), and let the kids know, “The Adventure Store will be open at the next stop!”
This simple announcement sparks so much excitement. Kids start counting their Bucks, budgeting for what they want, and making trade-off decisions — all without realizing they’re practicing math and decision-making skills.
👉 Pro Tip: When you say the store is going to open or closed — stick to it. Your word becomes gold on the trip. It builds trust and helps the whole system run smoothly.
Once it’s time, give your child a moment to browse, calculate what they can afford, and make their purchase. Before handing over any change, ask if they know how much they should get back — it’s another sneaky (and fun!) learning opportunity.
You’ll be amazed at how much your child gets out of this little setup. Not only are they reinforcing positive behaviors, but they’re also learning real-life skills like budgeting, bartering, and patience — all while having fun and feeling proud of their purchases.
